Divvy up the credit however you like, but this was a big win for the Yankees. Sabathia pitched a four-hit shutout and Alex Rodriguez homered on his first swing of the season in a 4-0 defeat of the Orioles on Friday, snapping a five-game losing streak.

LOS ANGELES -- Major League Baseball suspended Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez for 50 games on Thursday for use of a performance-enhancing drug.
Ramirez, in a statement released by the Major League Baseball Players Association, attributed the suspension to his use of a doctor-prescribed medication and waived his right to challenge the discipline.
"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.
"I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

大リーグは７日（日本時間８日）、ドジャースのマニー・ラミレス外野手（３６）に薬物規定違反で５０試合の出場停止処分を科したと発表した。ラミレスは１９９３年にインディアンス入り。昨年途中レッドソックスからドジャースに移籍。通算５００本以上の本塁打を放つ強打者で、今季ここまで２７試合で打率・３４８でリーグ５位。６本塁打、２０打点で首位を走るチームの快進撃に貢献。奔放な振る舞いでも知られている。ラミレスは「医師から個人的な健康の問題で薬をもらった。不幸なことに、その薬がこの規定の中では禁止されていた。この過ちは私の責任下にある」と選手会を通じてコメントを発表した。
チームは前日のナショナルズ戦勝利で開幕からの本拠地連勝を１３とした。近代野球といわれる１９００年以降の大リーグ記録を９８年ぶりに更新したばかりだが、トーリ監督にとってショックは大きい。２位ジャイアンツと６・５ゲーム差とし、独走態勢に入っているチームに大きな影響を与えそうだ。

MLBって薬物疑惑の報道がある度に時間が止まったようになって、その度に何かこう、サーっと情熱が引いてしまう。
私だけじゃろか。
特にA-Rodもマニーもとなると…。

Rays steal series from Red Sox
ST. PETERSBURG -- As much as the Red Sox wanted to get out of Tropicana Field with a split of this four-game series, two obstacles prevented that from happening in an eventual 5-3 loss to the Rays.
The first was Tampa Bay starter James Shields, who pounded the strike zone with nasty offerings all day. Then there was Carl Crawford, who treated the basepaths as his personal track meet, tying a modern-day Major League record by stealing six bases to go along with two runs and four hits.

ああ、レッドソックスの顔面水準は今でも力強く維持されてるな〜、セオ信念貫いてる〜って嬉しくなった。
ずっとこんなチームでいてほしいな。
