サンフランシスコ・ジャイアンツファンが、またトレードの話が出てたというのでちょっと読んでみました。

ジャイアンツのファンはトレードされるのがFred Lewisだったらやだ、とか、松井の方がいいとか、意見は半々のような気がします。

In current discussions about Hideki Matsui, the Yankees would get a prospect and another player from the San Francisco Giants for their left fielder.

"I don't think it's gotten too far down the track," a baseball official familiar with the Yankees plans said yesterday, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the issue is not resolved.

現在の松井に関する話の流れでは、ヤンキースはプロスペクトとその他の選手をゲットするだろう。
確定したわけではないが昨日、ヤンキースのプランに詳しい野球関係者が「この話は遠のいたわけではない」と匿名で話した。

An official with one of the teams said the main player in the package offered by San Francisco is an unspecified minor-leaguer. According to the official, who asked not to be named because he is not directly involved in talks, another name that has come up is outfielder Fred Lewis, who has a .298 average in 71 career games the past two seasons.

With Melky Cabrera still the main center fielder, the Yankees have two left fielders (Matsui and Johnny Damon) but no room for one of them to DH because of Jason Giambi.

"I was on clubs here in the late '90s (where) there were more people than positions to fill," manager Joe Girardi said this week, "and we made it work and we won championships. And we will try to do the same now. I mean, you never know -- I don't think you can ever have too many people."

ヤンキースはメルキー・カブレラが正中堅手であり、二人の左翼手を持ち（マツイとジョニー・デーモン）、DHはジオンビーがいるので枠がない。

監督のジョー・ジラルディは今週このように述べた。 
「私は90年代後半にこの球団にいたが、ポジションより多くの選手がいた。我々はそれを活用してチャンピオンシップに勝った。そして今、同じことをしようとしている。つまり、まだどうなるかはわからないが、私は過剰に選手を持てるとは思わない。」

The Giants could market Matsui to the Asian community in the Bay Area to try to make up for any attendance hit from the loss of Barry Bonds.

Matsui has a full no-trade clause. His agent, Arn Tellem, did not return a call seeking comment. The Yankees could try to entice Matsui to accept a trade by telling him his playing time will be diminished if he stays.

According to Japanese newspaper Sankei Sports, Matsui -- who on Nov. 14 underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee -- returned to Japan on Nov. 30 but was unavailable for comment yesterday because he had a fever and skipped his rehabilitation workouts....

Reliever Luis Vizcaino intended to decline the Yankees' offer of arbitration by last night's deadline, agent Bean Stringfellow said.

Stringfellow said he spoke yesterday with general manager Brian Cashman, who offered "nothing of any real substance." So Vizcaino will continue to negotiate with the handful of teams with interest, and if he signed elsewhere, the Yankees will get an extra draft pick next year between the first and second rounds....

リリーフのビスカイーノは代理人のBean Stringfellowによれば、ヤンキースの年俸調停を拒否するつもりである。
Stringfellowいわく、ビスカイーはGMキャッシュマンからのオファーには具体的なものは何もなかったと言う。
ビスカイーノは彼に興味を持つ一握りのチームと交渉を続けるだろう。
そして、もし彼が他のどこかと契約するのであれば、ヤンキースは来年ドラフトピックを得ることができるだろう…

 Andy Phillips, designated for assignment Monday when the Yankees officially signed backup catcher Jose Molina, refused an outright assignment to the minors and became a free agent.

アンディ・フィリップスは月曜日、ヤンキースがバックアップキャッチャーのホセ・モリーナと正式にサインした際にDFAとなり、マイナー行きを拒否してフリー・エージェントとなった。
